Epsilon and Daejoo to create high-performance silicon-graphite composite EV battery materials

Short : Epsilon has partnered with Daejoo to develop advanced silicon-graphite composite materials for high-performance EV batteries. This collaboration aims to enhance battery efficiency, providing higher energy density and faster charging capabilities.

Detail : This collaboration will boost EV battery efficiency, addressing the demand for sustainable, long-lasting energy solutions.

Epsilon Advanced Materials (EAM) and Daejoo Electronic Materials have partnered to develop a new silicon-graphite composite designed to enhance lithium-ion battery (LiB) performance. This collaboration aims to boost battery discharge capacity by over 50 per cent and extend lifespan, making it ideal for the growing demands of electric vehicles (EVs).

Moreover, EAM is uniting with Daejoo which is a South Korean producer of silicon anode materials, to create a composite that combines EAM’s graphite with Daejoo’s silicon material. The goal is to create an anode with a discharge capacity of 450-600 mAh/g, offering greater efficiency and longer life compared to traditional graphite anodes.

The companies will work together to develop and test the composite, with EAM providing synthetic graphite for Daejoo’s lab assessments, and Daejoo supplying samples for EAM’s evaluation. The initial development is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, after which the companies will qualify the material with cell manufacturers.

This collaboration aims to meet the increasing need for higher-performance, longer-lasting batteries in the automotive industry and beyond, contributing to more sustainable and efficient energy solutions.
